About Us
5 West Sector is located
in Greater Portmore across from the Greater Portmore plaza. The community hold
the Clinic, the Resident Magistrate court, a Church and a Multipurpose court.
The scheme has approximately 568 house and over 2000 residents a number of whom are
temporary residence. The sector is easily found as it is strategically
located at the only round-a-bout in Greater Portmore.
5 West Citizens'
Association has sat dormant for a number of years until Mr. Romelie sought to
try to revive the association in a bid to get community members active in the
development of the community but had little or no support from the wider community
which sent the association back in to a non progressive state.
On September 7, 2008 a
number of persons from a section of 5 West met in a bid to create a Sub-Citizens'
Association as they were concerned about the lack of attention being paid to the
sector and there was not much represenation, from that meeting an executive was
appointed and immediatley commenced working on stragtegies to revive the
commnunity. This brought conflict and a number of person critised the effort
sighting it as a sabotage to the Citizens' Association. It was against this
back ground the then chairman Mr. Belito Romelie and incumbent President Mr.
David Barnet met and discussed a way forward. It was agreed by then chairman
that we will merge and use the more vibrant executive to carry on the task
which the new executive had formulated to move the community forward.
We have been making steady
progress since and have had our fair share of problems but works hard to
resolve them as early as possible.
The association does not
currently have a housing for its office but the executive uses numerous methods
to communicate with the members of the association.
The Association is also guided by rules which most be adhered to, however, if and when these guidelines can't be adhered to the association most be dissolved and until new rules are in constued which can be adhered to.
A Youth club and Neighbourhood watch falls
under the umbrella of the citizens' association.
